NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY FAQ

When should I schedule newborn photos?

When should I schedule newborn photos?

The optimal time to schedule is prior to two weeks of age for best results and no later than 3 weeks, since babies tend to start stretching more and sleeping less.

How much time should I leave for my session?

How much time should I leave for my session?

Due to unpredictability of your newborn, you do not want to feel rushed. If baby is cooperative the session will go smoothly and may not take much time, but with newborns things rarely go as planned. Plan on spending 2-6 hours depending on baby and what you desire out of your session. In the event it runs long, you’re welcome to help yourself to our small snacks and beverages. If you have a favorite snack or drink that you would like to bring, please feel free.

Poses and Props?

Poses and Props?

Do you have a vision? If you’ve seen something you like it’s important to mention it to your photographer. We offer a variety of props however if there is a special blanket, hat, or something else sentimental, don’t hesitate to bring it along. Your photographer will let you know if it poses a problem for the photos.

What should I bring to the session?

What should I bring to the session?

Most importantly, baby! Extra clothes for anyone who wants to be in the photo too, like Mom, Dad, or siblings; and because accidents happen. General diaper bag furnishings; lots of diapers and wipes. This session shouldn’t be stressful for new parents, we want this to be a relaxing time for you.

What should I wear?

What should I wear?

You should expect the studio to be warm to keep baby comfy, so you may want to dress in layers to keep yourself comfortable as well. Colors like white, cream, blush, and beige are great classics to use. Cool gray, black, and solid pastels are good too.

Tips to prepare

Tips to prepare

We’ll get plenty of gorgeous photos out of your session regardless of your baby’s mood, however cuddly poses are what we are aiming for. Try to keep your baby awake at least 1-2 hours before the session. Make sure baby is well fed, a full belly helps baby stay sleepy for their shoot. If you are unsure about something just ask! We are always here to help. Don’t hesitate to bring up any concerns or suggestions, but do stay patient and don’t get embarrassed or frustrated if things go wrong; babies can sense when their parents become upset and we are here to help keep the session as relaxed as possible.

Birth deserves to be celebrated! The day your child is born, changes everything. Where words fail to capture the depth of the moment, a photograph preserves all the emotion of your labor, delivery and first moments after the birth.

Hiring a birth photographer allows your partner to be completely present with you throughout labor and delivery and especially in those sacred bonding moments after birth so you can just live them together.

By hiring a professional “Birth” photographer your partner will be free to experience the moment as it is happening, and not through the lens of a camera, and they can actually be in the photos!

Birth is wildly unpredictable. There are no do-overs. You will never have the chance to re-live the moment you first saw your baby, how you looked at each other the first time you held him/her on your chest. I promise you will want to be able to remember it for the rest of your life.

Everyone’s focus should be on You and Baby. Having a birth photographer ensures that you will have plenty of images of everyone involved to look back on and remember the day as it truly was.

And finally, you will have beautiful documentation of your child’s birth to share with them!
