It is important you and your partner feel comfortable with me. Giving birth is a very private and intimate time and It is always an honor when clients allow me in their life on such a special day. We can get to know each other during our in-person consultation. During this meeting we will discuss what is involved, your expectations and vision, what your ideal birth plan is as well as what you want and do not want photographed and any other questions you might have.
There is no set of hours, as every birth is different. I begin photographing your birth when you a in active labor and stay up to 2 hours after delivery.
Every birth is beautiful and deserves to be captured. Many hospitals and doctors are becoming more open to photography during surgery. In the event, that I am not allowed in the O.R., I will capture as many details as possible and be there to follow your partner and baby to the nursery.
No problem! I am on call 24/7 from the time you are 38 weeks. I will chat after each doctor appointment during the last trimester, so that you can keep me updated with your progress. This often time helps us avoid surprises. Fear not, regardless of a surprise or what time it may be, I will be ready to go, even at 2am.
Privacy is SUPER important to us therefore no images will be shared without your approval. We love when clients give us permission to share their birth stories, as it encourages other families, but we understand that sharing such an intimate event is not for everyone.
Maybe a Fresh 48 is for you! This is a session up to 90 minutes long, occurring within 48 hours of delivery at the birth place, allowing mom to rest, freshen up and look her best for her first family photos. These sessions are perfect for those first meetings among siblings and family members, and those interested in capturing a more private experience on their baby's birthday. These sessions are on-call, as they need to be scheduled shortly after birth and take place during normal business hours.
Perhaps a Newborn Lifestyle session that takes place in the comfort of your own home within 1-3 weeks after birth, offering you and your family time to settle in. This allows you to experience a relaxed, stress-free session full of candid moments; moments that perfectly capture you and your family.
The optimal time to schedule is prior to two weeks of age for best results and no later than 3 weeks, since babies tend to start stretching more and sleeping less.
Due to unpredictability of your newborn, you do not want to feel rushed. If baby is cooperative the session will go smoothly and may not take much time, but with newborns things rarely go as planned. Plan on spending 2-6 hours depending on baby and what you desire out of your session. In the event it runs long, you’re welcome to help yourself to our small snacks and beverages. If you have a favorite snack or drink that you would like to bring, please feel free.
Do you have a vision? If you’ve seen something you like it’s important to mention it to your photographer. We offer a variety of props however if there is a special blanket, hat, or something else sentimental, don’t hesitate to bring it along. Your photographer will let you know if it poses a problem for the photos.
Most importantly, baby! Extra clothes for anyone who wants to be in the photo too, like Mom, Dad, or siblings; and because accidents happen. General diaper bag furnishings; lots of diapers and wipes. This session shouldn’t be stressful for new parents, we want this to be a relaxing time for you.
You should expect the studio to be warm to keep baby comfy, so you may want to dress in layers to keep yourself comfortable as well. Colors like white, cream, blush, and beige are great classics to use. Cool gray, black, and solid pastels are good too.
We’ll get plenty of gorgeous photos out of your session regardless of your baby’s mood, however cuddly poses are what we are aiming for. Try to keep your baby awake at least 1-2 hours before the session. Make sure baby is well fed, a full belly helps baby stay sleepy for their shoot. If you are unsure about something just ask! We are always here to help. Don’t hesitate to bring up any concerns or suggestions, but do stay patient and don’t get embarrassed or frustrated if things go wrong; babies can sense when their parents become upset and we are here to help keep the session as relaxed as possible.
